Knowing How Things Work and Using Real Tools

School age children want to know how things work, how to use real tools to construct and build things and be involved in projects in which they work as a group to produce something. They want to test out their skills and learn new ones and are less interested in open-ended imaginative play.  They want real work with real tools.

                Try this!

  • Create sculptures out of recycled materials
  • Design and grow a garden
  • Build a birdhouse
  • Conduct science experiments
  • Perform a play
  • Create a board game
  • Build a marble racetrack out of cardboard tubes
  • Take apart an old toaster or other broken appliance (be sure to cut the power cord)
