SUMMARY:Beyond Measure: Film Screening and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:In Beyond Measure\, we set out to challenge the assumptions of our current education story. Rather than ask why our students fail to measure up\, this film asks us to reconsider the greater purpose of education. What if our education system valued personal growth over test scores? Put inquiry over mimicry? Encouraged passion over rankings? What if we decided that the higher aim of school was not the transmission of facts or formulas\, but the transformation of every student? And what if this paradigm-shift was driven from the ground up? By students\, parents\, and educators? By all of us? In Beyond Measure\, we find a revolution brewing in public schools across the country. From rural Kentucky to New York City\, schools that are breaking away from an outmoded\, test-driven education are shaping a new vision for our classrooms. These are schools that see critical thinking\, communication\, exploration\, experimentation\, collaboration\, and creativity as the key to good education. And they are dramatically improving  outcomes for children of all backgrounds. They are schools where practically every\nstudent graduates and goes on to finish college. \nParticipants will register through Eventbrite. You will be sent a link to screen the film\, Beyond Measure. You must view the film between October 7 and 14 and participate in the follow-up session on October 14\, 2020 to receive 2.5 hours of credit. This is a 2-part class. Everyone who registers for the film screening will also be sent a Zoom link to the follow up discussion on October 14 from 6:30-7:30PM. The cost is free. \nClick here to register for the film screening and discussion. \nLevel 2   CDA 6    CC 6    Audience-All \n2.5 Credit Hours

SUMMARY:Routines\, Rituals and Research with Preschool Children
DESCRIPTION:As we move into the “new normal” and progress towards fall; routines\, rituals and research have become an important part of our lives and the lives of our children and families. How can we reflect and reconsider our classroom routines based upon the needs of the children? Routines are a collection of daily practices that create encounters with children\, the adults\, and the environment. What daily practices would you like to reconsider or reinvent within your classrooms? Rituals are often special practices that are repeated to create habitual behaviors\, for example greeting a child or saying goodbye can be rituals that promote social interaction and care between classmates. Rituals differ from routines because they create a shared sense of everyday life. What parts of life within the context of your classroom would you like to share among the children? Join us for a discussion on how to add rituals into your classroom which promote the sharing of experiences between children and adults. \nNotice: This is an online class.  Please make sure you include a valid email address when registering and that you have internet and email access at the time of the training.
