DESCRIPTION:This training will focus on the importance of Nurture and Attachment from the Kentucky Strengthening Families model. Research shows that babies who receive affection and nurturing from their parents have the best chance of developing into children\, teens and adults who are happy and healthy. These children grow to possess individual-level protective factors\, such as relational\, self-regulation and problem-solving skills. When the parent-child relationship is strong\, a family will thrive under most conditions and it is much less likely for abuse to occur. As ECE providers\, we are in contact with parents on a regular basis. DESCRIPTION:Joys of Teaching Community of Practice Session 4: Partnering with Families by using Strengthening Families Approach!\nFamilies are the expert on their child! Join our monthly\, Joys of Teaching Community of Practice to discuss how we can strengthen our partnerships with families by using the KY Strengthening Families Framework. The more you know and understand about the environment\, culture\, and everyday experiences of the children and families\, the easier it will be to build genuine connections with families and work together to support their children. By the end of the session\, you will become aware of the Strengthening Families framework including the six KY protective factors and learn how to create environments that are inclusive of families and their culture. \nThe Joys of Teaching Community of Practice will meet monthly on the fourth Thursday from 4:30-6:30 pm EST through June 2022. The cost is free. DESCRIPTION:Promoting strong\, healthy family relationships provides far-reaching benefits that go beyond the family itself. Healthy families lead to healthy children\, communities and economic prosperity. Strengthening Families Concrete Support in Times of Need will help you connect families to resources in times of need. Every family\, at some point\, needs support. “A time of need” can be described as the birth of a child\, supporting a child with special needs\, choosing the right center or school for the family needs\, trauma\, mental illness\, violence or poverty. This session aims to educate providers on how to strengthen the family’s ability to access services and advocate for their needs. By the end of the session providers will know how to direct families to early intervention supports\, and access 211 which is the Louisville\, KY based essential community services hotline. DESCRIPTION:Joys of Teaching Community of Practice Session 4: Promoting a Culture of Self-Care by Building Resilience\, Before\, During and After a Crisis!\nTaking care of yourself is an important part of being a caregiver. It can be challenging to prioritize time for yourself when you have so many other things in your life to tend too and COVID-19 only magnified this existing challenge. If you are not feeling well\, healthy\, and nurtured\, your stress and fatigue can impact others including the children in your care and your colleagues. It can be easy to forget that adults influence the climate in their classrooms and contribute greatly to the school culture. With some intention and best practices\, even the most stressful situations can be managed by adults to ensure that the school environment is one of peace and safety where all can thrive. This session will introduce educators to the concept of healthy stress\, unhealthy stress and chronic stress. Not all stressful events lead to harmful outcomes including COVID-19. During our two hours together we will explore practices that reduce stress and build resilience. In addition we will discuss research on COVID-19 and how vulnerable populations experience adversity at higher rates due to COVID-19. Resilience is one way we can combat the impact COVID-19 continues to have on our children\, families and friends. Resilience is not a trait we are born with or without\, it is a skillset we can develop by focusing on the following six areas: self-awareness\, self-regulation\, mental agility\, strengths of character\, connection and optimism. Resilience is one small way we can buffer stress and create classroom climates that are rooted in social-emotional learning. SUMMARY:Handling Challenging Behaviors by Building Resiliency
DESCRIPTION:This training will cover an overview of behaviors\, resiliency\, and strategies to use in the classroom to assist with decreasing challenging behaviors. After discussing common challenging behaviors that take place in early childhood classrooms\, participants will have the opportunity to participate in group discussions about strategies to support those children and the classroom.
