SUMMARY:School Readiness Series - Approaches to Learning
DESCRIPTION:Cognitive and higher order thinking refers to a child’s ability to solve problems\, approach learning and learn about how things affect each other. Children approach learning differently based upon temperament\, prior experiences and relationships. During the two hour session\, participants will discuss what the three types of temperament are and how temperament impacts a child’s approach to learning. All participants are expected to read an article in advance of the session related to temperament and complete a brief assessment. This required pre-work will provide participants with one hour of additional credit. Through discussions and videos\, participants will learn how to create meaningful play-based experiences that foster many different approaches to learning. Lastly\, the session will provide access to current research which emphasizes the significance that relationships play with regard to a child’s development. By the end of the session participants will be able to identify components of cognitive development\, plan experiences that foster higher order thinking and engage in powerful interactions which foster a love for learning! \nThis workshop is free thanks to the generous sponsorship by the Jefferson County Community Early Childhood Council through a grant from the Governor’s Office of Early Childhood. \nNotice: This is an online class.  Please make sure you include a valid email address when registering and that you have internet and email access at the time of the training.
