SUMMARY:School Readiness Series - Playing with Language and Communication!
DESCRIPTION:Language and communication skills start developing before a child enters into this world and consist of more than merely words spoken. Language and communication can be described as all the different ways a child understands and communicates with the world. This two hour session will provide educators with the developmental framework necessary to nurture communication and language. Educators will be asked to explore children’s storybooks in advance of the session and will receive one hour of additional credit. After exploring and selecting a storybook\, the educators will be asked to reinterpret or express the book using gestures\, symbolic representation\, rhythms or more with their class and will share this experience with others. This rich experience will provide ideas\, strategies and knowledge on how to nurture a child’s love for language and communication. By the end of the session\, the participants will know how the domain of language and communication is related to other areas of development and what they can do as educators to create daily experiences that foster language and communication skills by using books and print in meaningful ways. \nThis workshop is free thanks to the generous sponsorship by the Jefferson County Community Early Childhood Council through a grant from the Governor’s Office of Early Childhood. \nNotice: This is an online class.  Please make sure you include a valid email address when registering and that you have internet and email access at the time of the training. SUMMARY:Joys of Teaching Community of Practice: Observing\, planning\, and creating meaningful learning!
DESCRIPTION:Joys of Teaching Community of Practice Session 3: Observing\, planning\, and creating meaningful learning! \nObservation is a choice and requires interpretation! Join this community of practice to discover the skills of observing with joy! Observation involves being specific\, noticing details\, describing the details of the tone or mood within the observation. All observations have a beginning\, middle and end and occur within the context of a relationship. During this session\, educators will explore how observing children allows adults to become more aware of the child and their unique way of noticing\, playing and growing. This type of observation allows educators to not only notice the children’s skills and knowledge but also their thinking or ideas. By the end of the session\, educators will know how\, where and why to observe and will have some simple next steps for making learning visible. \nThe Joys of Teaching Community of Practice will meet monthly on the fourth Thursday from 4:30-6:30 pm EST through June 2022.
