Understanding and Using the ASQ:SE to Support Social-Emotional Development
April 23 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Facilitator : Liz Walker
This three-hour session invites early childhood educators to deepen their understanding of the Ages & Stages Questionnaires: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE) and how it can be used as a supportive, family-centered tool—not just a form. Through hands-on practice, real scenarios, and guided reflection, participants will explore the “why” behind social-emotional screening, what the ASQ:SE measures, and how to confidently interpret results in a way that honors children’s strengths and supports families with empathy and respect. Educators will practice scoring, reviewing cutoff areas, and identifying red flags, but they’ll also look beyond the numbers—recognizing behavior as communication, understanding developmental influences, and building supportive conversations with families. By the end of this session, participants will walk away feeling more equipped to use the ASQ:SE as a guide for early intervention, meaningful family partnership, and nurturing healthy social-emotional development across the birth-to-six age span.
This workshop is free thanks to the generous sponsorship by the Jefferson County Regional Collaborative through a grant from the Governor’s Office of Early Childhood.
