This special needs training is designed to help early childhood educators understand and support the emotional regulation needs of young children, including children with disabilities, developmental delays, and sensory needs. Participants will explore how children development, temperament, sensory processing, communication abilities and individual differences can influence the ways children experience and express emotions.
Educators will gain practical tools for recognizing when a child’s emotional or behavioral response may require additional support and for adapting their responses, routines, and environments to meet the individual needs. This training emphasizes inclusive practice that promote emotional safety, connection, participation, resilience, and self-regulation for children with a range of developmental abilities and support needs.
This training meets the new requirement that all child care providers complete 3 hours of annual training on the topic “Working with Children with Special Needs” as part of the required 15 annual training hours.
This course is an interactive e-learning experience, and participants will need access to a computer or tablet that is connected to the internet. You will complete this module at your own pace, working through a variety of activities (videos, articles, short-answer responses, assignments, quizzes, etc.).
