Kentucky Child Care Special Needs Training Requirement

The current requirement differs depending on the type of child care provider:

• Licensed child-care providers (Type I and II): At least 3 hours of annual training must focus on working with children with special needs.
• Certified family child care home providers: At least 2 hours of annual training must focus on working with children with special needs.

The requirement begins in the first year of employment or operation and continues each subsequent year. Training must be approved by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
