In this special needs eCourse, participants will learn about how the senses work together in the brain to process our surroundings and can influence the behaviors and actions of young children. Some children have problems with sensory processing in which they can be overstimulated by sights, sounds, and touch or in which they seem to need more sensory stimulation or movement to focus. Sensory processing can be a problem for most children on the autism spectrum. These challenges can manifest in many different ways and can be challenging for educators and families to handle. In this training, participants will learn how to spot sensory processing issues and how to implement some strategies in the classroom to help support these children.
This training meets the new requirement that all child care providers complete 3 hours of annual training on the topic “Working with Children with Special Needs” as part of the required 15 annual training hours.
This course is an interactive e-learning experience, and participants will need access to a computer or tablet that is connected to the internet. You will complete this module at your own pace, working through a variety of activities (videos, articles, short-answer responses, assignments, quizzes, etc.).
