Decorations

One very simple but beautiful decoration comes straight from the great outdoors. Gather a small piece of a bush or weed, approximately 12-15 inches tall, whichever has the most branches, and bring it indoors. Place it in a piece of planting mud or an old piece of Styrofoam. Spray it with snow and let it dry. Have children color small, paper ornaments or paper lights and hang on the tree to decorate. Put a few loose leaves around the base. Add some simple fruit or an ear of Indian corn around the base, a small Star of David or a simple rolled up piece of paper to resemble a scroll. This allows children of all faiths to participate and provides an appreciation of other’ faiths and customs. Encourage your children to ask questions and also to contribute things which they feel might be a good symbol.
